A language is a system for encoding and decoding information. In its most common use, the term refers to so-called "natural languages" — the forms of communication considered peculiar to humankind. In linguistics the term is extended to refer to the human cognitive facility of creating and using language. Essential to both meanings is the systematic creation and usage of systems of symbols—each referring to linguistic concepts with semantic or logical or otherwise expressive meanings.

The most obvious manifestations are spoken languages such as English or Spoken Chinese. However, there are also written languages and other systems of visual symbols such as sign languages.

Although some other animals make use of quite sophisticated communicative systems, and these are sometimes casually referred to as animal language, none of these are known to make use of all of the properties that linguists use to define language in the strict sense.

When discussed more technically as a general phenomenon then, "language" always implies a particular type of human thought which can be present even when communication is not the result, and this way of thinking is also sometimes treated as indistinguishable from language itself.

In Western philosophy for example, language has long been closely associated with reason, which is also a uniquely human way of using symbols. In Ancient Greek philosophical terminology, the same word, logos, was used as a term for both language or speech and reason, and the philosopher Thomas Hobbes used the English word "speech" so that it similarly could refer to reason, as discussed below.

What are the programing languages which may be of use to me in a software development company?
Q. I want to know what programing languages will be of help to me if i'm planning to step into software development. I know c/c++ and the very basics of assembly language. Also if you can tell me how they may come in handy and something about the current trends in the software development field, that'd be great. Thanks. Thanks. I guess i did not put it right. I was asking if there are any other languages i can learn apart from the ones i already know which will be beneficial to me. Software development as in providing software solutions to companies, and making softwares for them.

A. Today, most software companies use VB.net, and C#.net. these languages make it easy to develop a system very quickly. Companies also use C/C++ as they are great for speed and performance, but it takes longer to develop a system. C/C++ also gives you much more control. If you want a not-as-complex system, use VB or C# if you want power and speed / performance, use C++ if you are looking for web-based / portability, use JAVA

What are the languages required to develop a dynamic and a good web page?
Q. i wanna know the entire set of languages needed to develop a web page.

A. The core things you need are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Flash and Java Applets are also a possibility, but not necessary. To make it dynamic you also need a server side language. The major choices here are PHP, JSP, ASP, Perl, Python, Ruby, and Cold Fusion. There's also server-side JavaScript.

What kind of programming languages for showing inventory over the net?
Q. Hi, we have customers nationwide and they want to see our inventory status online so they can check and place orders. We have simple company website and I want to use the site for this purpose. What programming languages do I need? I'm now learning HTML, CSS, and Javascript. And planning to do Visual Basic and MS Access. Can someone give me a pointer? Thanks a lot in advance.

A. ASP.Net is the way to go, with either C# or VB.Net. If you know some VB already the transition to VB.Net will be easier. You'll need the database, which if it's access, not my favorite option, but it'll work.
