Q. what happened on a the episode of deadliest catch when phil from corneilia marie coughed up blood and maybe passed out?? i only saw a preview and it looked good.. and the episode where a coast guard helicopter was collecting ice and was running out of gas...did they crash?

A. Phil had a blood clot that passed through his lungs. He had to go to the hospital and let the crew fish without him. But he continued to smoke even at the hospital. Don't know about the helicopter.

Q. So, I was watch this week's (June 17th) Deadliest Catch and I thought I saw a preview as like, What happens next week. But then, I was watching After the Catch and it had that scene snip it on there. A. They haven't shown any episode yet where Captain Sig Hansen (Northwestern) appears to be having trouble with his chest. I'm not sure, but I think it's just that his chest hurts from all the coughing he does. I think the upcoming Episode 65 "Lockout", to be shown on June 23, 2009, has a scene of him where he's grabbing his chest.

A. My favorites change a lot too. I like the Cornelia Marie and the Northwestern. I like Phil.. Sucks that he's sick though. But he's probably my favorite captian. I like Sig a lot though too. They both seem pretty laid back and I love watching them play their tricks on each other.

why does discovery channel always play deadliest catch?
Q. im getting so sick of that dam show. they just need to end it. or play it on animal planet or something. its not even the worlds deadliest job. pretty sure coal mining is more dangerous then that. or deep sea welding. can i write discovery channel or something and start a movement to stop playing so much. everyday for at least two or three hours its on UGGGH!

Does anyone know how to find out the quotas or limits for the crab fishing vessels on Deadliest Catch?
Q. Each boat in the grab fishing season is only allowed to take a limited amount of crab. It seems like these limits (IFQ's? IPQ's?) ought to be a matter of public record. Is there someplace to go look them up online?

Alaska has a permit system, where permits are issued to people for specific amounts, these people can opt to sell ,(or lease) their permits to someone else if they decide it is more profitable to them instead of fishing themselves, because of that it would be difficult to find out an exact number that each boat can harvest

A. I watched a behind the scenes episode and they do use other boats to film. They also use Coast Guard helicopters and for those close up views they use the big arm that is used for getting the crab pots and they extend that over the water.

Q. On the TV show, "Deadliest Catch", They fish for crabs, when the drop the pots, do they just leave them underwater and pick them up later or attach the pots to the boat somehow? What if the pot gets lost in the ocean?

A. The pots are tied to long ropes, at the other endof the ropes are buoys (floating devices), each boat has their own colored buoys, the ropes are not connected to the boat. They just drop the pots, let them soak for about 6-8 hours (usually), then pull the pots back up.
