Cream Cheese & Crab Wontons (also called Crab Rangoon) 1 Package of Wonton Wrappers 1 Egg (Beaten) 1 Package of Cream Cheese (Softened to Room Temperature) 1 Can of Crab Meat Drained (Lump-Style) or *1 Pound of Crab Legs 2 Tablespoon of Flour or 1 Piece of Toast Oil for Frying Sauce for Dipping In a large bowl, mix the cream cheese, the flour (or toast), and the crab meat until well blended. Can you crack crab legs to fit them in a round steamer?
Q. Just got a round steamer and wanted to steam crab legs. Lobster tails will fit but not sure if I could make the crab legs fit or not. Bet you can tell I am a novice at this one.
Asked by Ravenswood A - Tue Jun 3 16:19:20 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sure ... it won't affect the flavor. Try to separate the legs at the joints, though. If you don't want to separate them, you can just toss the crab legs whole into a pot of boiling water. They only take a few minutes to cook. Just let the water drain out before you serve them!

What do you call a hermit crab with horns?
Q. A staghorn hermit crab. Can staghorn hermit crabs live with a pincushion urchin in a 20 gallon long aquarium? Do I need to give them extra shells so the staghorn hermit crab can move into them when it gets too big for it's old shell? If so, where can I find staghorn shaped shells? Are they difficult to care for? To make it easier, you can provide me with links. Thanks!

A. LOL Yes they will live together They are not staghorn shaped shells they are stag horn coral that the crab cuts an opening in and then lives in

How can I tell the difference between imitation crab meat and the real stuff?
Q. I hope this authentic Vietnamese restaurant uses real crab meat and not the "crab-flavored white fish" crab meat...
Asked by Danielle - Sun Aug 24 09:56:39 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ask them. Visually real crab meat is different than imitation crab. Imitation crab is usually colored red and real crab meat will probably not be red. It will be flaky, almost like tuna, whereas imitation crab is spongy and rubbery. Real crab meat also tastes saltier, with hints of seaweed. You can tell it came out of the ocean. Imitation crab is usually quite sweet.

A. Find a good picture of the Star Wars character, C3PO. Look at the arrangement of pistons and rods at his elbows. Your crab can be articulated in a similar fashion. Also, try to find some images of the giant spider in the Will Smith version of Wild, Wild West.

A. I see you're getting a lot of advice about pulling up the crabgrass by hand. This might sound like about as much fun as a tour of Dante's vision of hell, but consider this: The crabgrass is so-named because it has a sort of crab-like shape: a bunch of arms radiating out from a central spot. And that means if you pull out the central structure, you've got the whole thing. Here's what I do: The day before your attack on the c/g, water the area where they've taken root heavily. Let the water soak in overnight. Next morning, tug at some of the c/g and see how easily they come up. If they pull right out, keep going -you'll be done faster than you think. Several may put up a fight. OK, pass by them and get the others. As you do this, you'll… [cont.]

A. I don't usually cook crab meat off the shells. I suggest you steam the de-shelled crabs so it retains their flavour instead of boiling there as all the flavour would end up in the water. Hope this helps X

how can you tell the difference between an ornamental crab apple tree and real one? also can you eat them?
Q. I have a very old crab apple tree in my yard but dont know how to tell if it is an ornamental crab apple tree or a real one. hope this isnt to silly of a question but i would love to make jelly out of t hem if i can. thank for any help you can give. thank you this has been very helpful.
Asked by Richard - Tue Aug 25 17:27:16 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The only difference between an "Ornamental Crabapple" and a "Crabapple" tree is semantics. It's the same thing. When differentiating trees grown for fruit, and trees grown for show with no significant fruit production (as in cherry trees), the term "ornamental" is stuck on to the front so you know you're NOT talking about a tree grown for the cherries. But with apples...the term "crabapple" automatically tells you that it's NOT a tree grown for the larger, edible fruit. So saying "ornamental crabapple" is a bit redundant. But ALL crabapples are edible, though usually tart & sour. They're all good for making jellies, as they have high pectin content. Go for it.

How to get rid of fishey taste in artichoke/crab/spinach dip?
Q. I made it yesterday and tried some and there is a fishey taste to it even though I used real crab meat from crab legs. The crab legs had been frozen from a leftover crab leg dinner a couple weeks ago but I don't recall them tasting fishey when we ate them then. This is the basic recipe with mayo/yogurt/parm cheese along w/ artichokes, crab and spinach. If I add a little lemon juice will that take away the fishey smell? If not, any suggestions? I need to take this with tonight to where we are going so any quick suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy Holiday's to all!!! Lemon juice did the trick. Neighbor stopped by and tried it and said it was fine. Thanks and Happy Holiday's!

A. If it is that unpleasant, throw it out. Don't serve it to guests they won't trust your cooking from now on. If you are pressed for time, just stop by a store and get a fruit and cheese tray, or make one yourself real quick. But whatever you do, don't take that dip, it will only embarrass you.

How much does an average hermit crab eat in a week?
Q. I feed my hermit crab whenever her shell is empty, but shje never eats more then 1 pellet every 3 days. Normally she only eats one a week. Each pellet is about the size of a fine sharpie marker. Is this normal for her to eat so little? Please see my 3 other questions about hermit crabs.
Asked by I NCIS! - Fri Aug 14 14:53:22 2009 - - 3 Answers - 2 Comments

A. Yes, it is normal. When I had hermit crabs about a year ago, they would eat about that much, as well. I was able to find some hermit crab "cookie" or treats for them that they seemed to really like and eat more often. Maybe you need to try other foods for your hermit crab? They can eat fruits and vegetables, that I know. But when I would feed that to my crabs, they would barely even touch it. You could always give it a shot. Just remember, you'd need to throw away the left overs after a couple hours, since the fruits and vegetables will start to get gross and yucky.

How many in shell pounds of crab legs are in a typical serving size?
Q. I want to serve crab legs for Valintines Day dinner, but I don't know how much to buy. How many pounds are in a typical serving?
Asked by JWilridge - Sat Feb 2 18:42:35 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. What kind of crab are you planning to serve? Are you wanting a feast, or are you looking to have many other dishes and just want some crab legs as part of it all? For a feast, look at around 2-3lbs of crab legs per person, or around the same amount for a couple if you're serving other entrees. If you're planning on serving king crab, it can vary from 1/2 to 2/3 lbs per leg, so maybe you can use that to gauge how much you were thinking of serving. Happy eating!
