TiVo (pronounced /ˈtiːvoʊ/) is a pioneer of the digital video recorder (DVR). TiVo was introduced in the United States, and is now available in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Taiwan, and the UK. TiVo DVRs provide an electronic television programming schedule, and provide features such as Season Pass recordings (which ensure subscribers never miss an episode of their favorite shows) and WishList searches (which allow the user to find and record shows that match their interests by title, actor, director, category or keyword). TiVo also provides a range of features when the TiVo DVR is connected to a home network, including movie and TV show downloads, advanced search, personal photo viewing, music offerings, and online scheduling.

How do you transfer shows from Tivo to computer?
Q. I've read a guide to do this using Tivo Desktop. I was wondering what format the show is in when it's on your computer. Does it work well? How is the picture quality? Please inform me.
Asked by britpop908 - Fri Dec 21 03:40:23 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The format is something proprietary to Tivo, and it has all of the meta-data as well as digital rights management. The picture quality seemed fine to me. The video is stored digitally, so there is no reason for the signal to degrade. I suppose screen resolution on the PC affects the quality, but I have had no complaints at 1440x900. I have also had no complaints about the transfer process. Of course it takes time to move the video across the network, but this hasn't bothered me too much personally. Sure, I wouldn't mind an instantaneous transfer, but I'm happy to just have some way of getting video off of the Tivo.

How do I transfer tivo files to my laptop?
Q. What cable do I need to transfer from my tivo to my laptop with vista?
Asked by icaguy - Fri Sep 28 15:56:31 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi icaguy, I use a DVD Xpress. With DVD Xpress you can transfer your video to your hard drive and then edit it if you desire. DVD Xpress comes with basic video editing software. I got mine at Sam's for $59.95. They are cheaper now. You can look at one & read about it here - I saw a newer model at WalMart recently. It was the DVD Xpress2. I can t remember what it cost. You connect the composite output of your TiVo into the DVD Xpress and connect the DVD Xpress to your computer via a USB cable. Norm

How can I use a Tivo receiver like a VCR?
Q. I have a D10 direct tv satellite receiver and a Tivo satellite receiver. I have herd that I can hook up the Tivo to the direct tv and still record programs but I can not figure it out. I am not paying for Tivo and will not start paying for it so please do not tell me to just buy it. I do not have a home phone and will not get that either. Please just tell me how to hook it up. If you can explain it to me in simplest form. Thanks.

A. Unfortunately that can't be done unless you have one of the very early (series1) Tivo boxes. Starting with Series2 (and supposedly some of the later Series1's) Tivo disabled the ability to record when not connected with a paid subscription. If you do decide to pay, you at least need an internet connection, it can be done without a phone line. Otherwise I would suggest Ebay'ing the Tivo and buying a DVD/HDD recorder. If you're actually in possession of an older series1 box, this site might be able to help you:
