Dallas (pronounced /ˈdæləs/) is the third largest city in the state of Texas after Houston and San Antonio and the ninth-largest in the United States. As of July 1, 2009, CNN Money reported Dallas edged past San Diego (pop. 1,279,329) back into the 8th spot, with a population of 1,279,910. With an estimated population nearing 1.3 million, the city is the main economic center of the 12-county Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area that according to the March 2009 U.S. Census Bureau release, had a population of 6,300,066 as of July 2008, making it the number one metropolitan area in population growth in the nation last year. It is also the center of the largest metro area in Texas. Dallas is rated as a beta world city by the Loughborough University Globalization and World Cities Study Group & Network. Founded in 1841 and formally incorporated as a city in February, 1856, the city's economy is primarily based on banking, commerce, telecommunications, computer technology, energy, and transportation. Located in North Texas and a major city in the American South & Southwest, Dallas is the core of the largest inland metropolitan area in the United States that lacks any navigable link to the sea. The city's prominence despite this comes from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, its position along numerous railroad lines, a strong industrial and financial sector, and its status as a major inland port (due largely to the presence of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, one of the largest and busiest in the world). I realize that living abroad as a US citizen will likely be more expensive, but wanted to know what type of differential there actually is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It tells the cost of entrance and parking cost if there is one. Several of the museums are free. The Modern in Fort Worth is awesome! The Museum of Nature & Science at Fair Park has lots of things to see & do. Be sure to visit the Museum of the American Railroad. They have lots of trains that you can walk into on your own. One of the engines has a train whistle that you can blow. We always find that to be fun :)! Tickets range from $5 to $7 per person. I would suggest the Fair Park Passport which includes 7 museums (including the trains) for $11.99 for children and $19.99 for adults. It's valid for 90 days from the date of purchase. *Be sure to click on all the links at the top of… [cont.] Answered by unknown - Sun May 24 14:02:24 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Dallas"
